I need to get my trim working correctly. so I have two things.

My trim switch I dont' think is adjust correctly on my volvo aq290a. Also my trim doesn't seem to work while i'm in gear.

Is this problem related? What should I do to fix these issues?

I read the manual for the trim adjustment...confusing..... I read manuals like that all the time, but that just didn't make any sense!

I'm thinking these two are probably related, but I really don't know where to start with this one.

Is the trim sender behind the motor on top of the drive housing? If so, then the adjustment is very easy. Have the drive all the way down and add about 30lbs. to it. Loosen the one bolt holding the sender and turn the sender while watching the gauge. The manual should tell you what value should show on the gauge--if its digital. Mine is analogue, for now, and is a duoprop so I have my sender set to move the gauge as soon as the drive moves.

If the trim works out of gear, then it should work in gear. I don't think there is anything that lets the trim pump "know" its in gear.

You need to check all electrical connections involved with the trim system, from the control switch on the panel and on the throttle control to the trim pump and relays. I would take them apart, clean them and reattach with some dielectric grease.

Re: volvo trim problem

yeah, its on the drive housing in the steering helmut. I'll go ahead and try that and see if that will work right.

I suppose if its not working while in gear its probably a connection in the handle then, I'll probably go head and pop that out and see whats going on.

Thanks!!

You also have a rack and a gear on the outside. The rack is on the helmet. If it's missing, or the gear is broken all the adjustments in the world won't help.

Yes, it sounds like wiring in the control if it quits working when in gear. Have you tried using the trim on land when just moving the throttle and not having the engine run?

My rack and gear is still on my helmet and rotates that little keyway like it should.

and I don't remember if I tried it on land w/ the throttle pushed in or not. I will go try that.
