What is the full model number of your engine? They are not ID'ed by HP and not sure what 290 means.

How much water are we talking about. Head gaskets are almost never the problem on marine engines.

hello mr. Don.i think the model is AQ171/290..hope this help.PS the motor color is red and on it it say made in sweden..thank you mr. Don.The color on dipstick is whitish grey...Sterndrive model 290 A

You might want to check your title. The AQ171A/290 was a 1986 setup, not 1996.

Sorry about that your correct Mr Don It is a 1986...I found papers with numbers and serial number like...volvo penta b230...831918 PN-867949...8451.also serial nr.307493...also AQ171A...867885....2200201297...1277..no idea at all about these numbers.Thank you very much for the reply Mr, Don...

How much water are we talking about? Is the level on the dipstick rising?

The level is ok didn't not raise and the color of oil is grey,milky..Thank you mr don.What could be the trouble ?
