I think you ought to clarify your poll a little. If I had a 14' jon boat I used on the lake and I said I didn't carry an auxilliary that would be a little different than if I had a 25' I used in the Gulf of Mexico. I have a 17' runabout and I vote:<br /><br />NO

If you have a new or well maintained motor, I don't see the need. In Melbourne (OZ) you can use Mobile phone, Marine Radio, and if no one comes.. revert to flares and when near death.. EPIRB (Compulsory offshore)

AYE and yes I have used it on 3 occasions. One was blown engine, piston rod through the block. The other 2 was electrical. Kinda of hard to work on that while on the water. I use it 99% of the time for trolling.

I don't, but I'd like one for my 16' Glastron. I'm thinking about getting one of those outboard mounted trolling motors just for emergencies. Ski boats are hard to paddle...
