While inspecting bellows on my Volvo-Penta 270 (bellows are fine), I noticed a wear grove on the shift cable which means it will need to be replaced at some point. If the outer part of the cable wears through, is there another layer to prevent water intrusion? If not, how far inside can the water travel before doing serious damage to other parts?
