I think it's a 290 drive, it was installed in 1987 or 89 with a 5.7 in an old 68 Chris Craft. The other 5 bolts came loose, but 1 is not budging.
Any suggestion. What would you try.
Thanks

The clamp ring holding the two large rubber o rings to the transom shield?
If so the best way is to remove the engine from the flywheel cover. Once the engine is out you can then heat the bolt boss on the inside of the flywheel cover with MAP GAS ONLY to get the last bolt out.

Put the 5 bolts back in, tighten them up, then loosen the 6th. Your supposed to back all bolts off evely, or the last bolt us under so much tension it wont turn from the force of the donut

One you have all 6 bolts out, put 3 into the tapped holes to drive the ring off

Wow, Thanks Scott. I'll put the other bolts back in and go that route.
I'll let you know.

That didn't work. I put the bolts back in, tightened to 30 lbs., how tight should I torq them ?
Rounded the head. Now its cut or drill the head off. How do I get the bolts out so I can remove the helmit from the steering arm to give me another 1/2 " of work space.

Got the helmet off. Grinded the head off the bolt. Cleaned out the 3 tapped holes and stuck a bolt down, but it doesn't seem threaded ??
That's enough for today, I'll hit it again tomorrow.

If every thing you have tried does not work. You will have to get an air chisel and work it about 3/4" from the outer edge of the ring and break enough of the ring to pull the engine out. Then use the air chisel to break it apart to remove the frozen bolt. I have had to do it this way a few times, you just have to sacrifice the ring.

the threaded holes are helicoiled, so worse case, you need to get a new helicoil.
