VP 290 Drive Differences

Can someone tell me the dif between the early Volvo Penta 290sp drives and the later 290sp drives?
Also , when did they change from early to late versions?

A 290 is a 290. When Volvo changed something in the drive or transom assembly, they renamed the drive. After 290, was SP, before was 280.
