VP 4.3GS Timing Help

I am getting ready to time my engine and there is only a notch on the timing chain cover and a notch on the harmonic balancer. If they are lined up is that set to 1 degree BDTC? There are no numbers anywhere else, no other markings. I have the shunt needed, just not sure what the notches are supposed to mean.

Ayuh,.... Notches are zero,..... an adjustable timing light will show you the advance,.....
