Hi,

I have a VP 5.7 Gi-B, 2003 model. Recently a hole was found in the sump so the engine was pulled. The sump was replaced, as was the fuel pump and the starter motor. Engine completely cleaned and repainted and reinstalled by a very reputable mechanic.

Everything seems to run fine with the exception of an intermittent start issue. Either hot or cold, its a roll of the dice as to whether it starts when you turn the key, or whether you have to give it some gas.

The procedure I use is to turn the key until you hear the beep and the whine of the fuel pump stop, wait a few seconds, then start. Starter motor turns over fine but 50% of the time, engine won't start unless I put the throttle forward a bit in neutral.

I've previously (a few years ago) posted this issue but now that so many parts have been replaced and the issue is still there, I'm hoping someone might have some things to try.

Thanks in advance!!

David.

Re: VP 5.7 Gi-B - intermittent start

I can think of a bunch of things that will cause that problem, but instead of bouncing around all over the place, below is a link to the OEM EFI Diagnostic manual for your engine.
http://www.4shared.com/document/cfN9HVF3/7742218_EFI_Diagnostics.html?
With that, a DVM, and the Rinda Scan Tool, a fuel pressure gauge, a test light, and some work, you should be able to track down the problem
