Recently took on this project- 2005 Chaparral Sunesta 252 with a bad engine large hole in the intake. Looks like it got very hot and spewed over front of engine. I haven't checked the cylinders yet but guessing it's had some water intrusion. I'm looking for a used complete engine replacement and need to know what year VP 5.7's will swap. I would like to keep it as plug and play as possible......Thanks for your help!.

Thanks alldodge. I guess 1998 Vortec was the first year with the fuel injection. A new intake manifold would be $1600 alone so I'm thinking just find a used complete, hopefully fresh water, engine. I really don't understand how the damage was done to the intake on this engine. There is a very large hole near the thermostat housing. There doesn't seem to be a lot of used VP parts on eBay. Anyone have any ideas where to look for used components for these engines? Thanks

GM makes the motor, VP and Merc add things to the motor. You can use an Edelbrock intake if you want, just make sure it has bronze water passages or it all cast iron

WIth that in mind, some like to install plastic plugs in the intake and they can blow out. Have not seen the hole but look close
