Never mind... doing it a high speed now. Quite certain VRO took a dump.

Start running premix immediately.

Cadillac, You do realize that low oil and no oil are different alarms? No oil is detected by the OMS pump motion sensor at the motor and requires immediate premixing of oil and gas to save motor. Low oil means you need to add a gallon of oil to the oil reservoir at the next chance,

Afraid so. We got low oil last outing, because the oil tank was down to 1/4 full. This was "no oil" for sure! We've pretty much decided the VRO side of our pump went bad. Finances dictate that we'll have to bypass our VRO for now...

Good choice. Don't forget the 50:1 premix.

Oh yeah! The pre-mix is already in the tank! Too much money in that rebuild to risk it on a faulty VRO!!!!

only ran mine for about 10 minutes and below 2000 siezed up about 12 hours later. easy to check if it oil pump or sensor replace oil line with clear tube see if oil is moving inside tube. but do make sure your running 50 to 1 pre mix until you get this figured out

Is it possible that the oil level in the tank went below the pickup tube, introducing air into oil line? You might bleed the OMS pump and see what you find. Do continue to run premix, and fill the reservoir and run a 6 gal premix tank empty and refill Oil tank. See if it is pumping the correct amount of oil, ie about 16 oz..

Our oil level never got below a 1/4 tank, we were within site of the ramp when the low oil alarm went off last outing. We filled it, put in friday and the no oil alarm went off about 1/4 mile down river from the ramp. Shut the motor down instantly, pumped the bulb and it was ok until we slowed to idle again. I don't believe there was any damage done to our engine, every time the horn made a sound I immediately pumped the oil primer and the alarm stopped going off. We continued that until we got back to the ramp.

To bleed the OMS pump, you disconnect the oil line at the OMS pump (motor not running). Then pump oil primer bulb until only oil comes out (no air bubbles). Now reconnect the oil line and pump primer once more. Now run a tank of premix and see if oil is injected from reservoir appropriate to the amont of gasoline used.

We have not unhooked the VRO yet. Thanks for the replies, I'll try bleeding the OMS and go from there. I assume that with premix in the tank, if I bleed the OMS and run it to observed the oil consumption that if it's still not getting enough oil into the pump due to a defective VRO pump that the "no oil" horn will sound telling me the pump is not functioning properly. Right?

Yes, the alarm should sound, and you should not see enough oil consumed.

That'll be our plan on our next outing then. Thanks for all the info. We'll post the outcome.

Re: VRO alarm at low speed all the sudden. Help!!!

I have the same issue too.

Tested the VRO (see video) 1995 Evinrude 115hp intruder vro2 (oil injection) testing - YouTube The fuel reversed to the oil hose around 1" at the start up then sucked it back in a minute. Is it normal (fuel reversing at start up)?

Bled the VRO, primed once, ran 1500rpm or below for 5 - 10 minutes, the "no oil alarm" went off until I primed the oil bulb.

The oil bulb was very hard before I primed.

There is a white/clear plastic tube at the end of the VRO hose line under the cowling. If is somewhat transparent so that you can see if you have oil moving through it direct to the side of the pump. When you prime the oil hose, you should see oil flow through that sight device and then out of the end of the hose. Then reconnect immed. to the side of the pump. You might check to make sure the oil hose is not bad. They do get stiff with age. Those oil hoses are not the same as the fuel hoses-different part numbers.

Thanks mate. I found and bled the air in the hose. Then checked the oil flow, oil hose and kinks. They are all good. Ran the motor at 800rpm for 5 minutes then another 7 minutes at 1500rpm on muff, the alarm didn't go off. I will run the motor again tomorrow. See if any air sneak in overnight.

The alarm went off today. There must be air got in somewhere? I have no idea where to start to look. I may disconnect the oil hose and start to run on premix.
