1986 JL60TCDS
I installed rebuilt powerhead over the winter and thanks to help here, was able to get it all done! Went on my first ride this past weekend. Perfecto.

problem: VRO alarm while on all premix:
I have used premix for years after the VRO failed twice. I left the old one in as a fuel only pump rather than getting a new fuel pump ( I know...) Currently using premix double strength for break-in.

On reconnecting everything for this rebuilt powerhead, I have the oil tank wire disconnected so the low oil tank level alarm is disabled.

But apparently I connected other wires wrong and now have a low oil pressure alarm.(short on-short off). Of course it does not matter as I am using premix but the noise is annoying.

When I first start up, the alarm does not come on for a minute or so. If at idle, it is a slow short on-short off but as I accelerate it speeds up in step with the rising rpms and the tach. If I then stop the engine (or just flip the ignition switch off and back on ) it resets and does not alarm again for a minute . If I am running fast when it starts alarming, it is a faster pitch short on-short off and slows down as I decellerate.

Wonder if I hooked up the wires wrong at the terminal strip on the starboard side of the engine. Thought I had them all labeled. I think the wire from the VRO is purple? I do not recall having this disconnected before and the alarm never came on. What should I do?

Thanks for the continued help. Harvey

Look for a lead off the VRO pump. It has a rubber plug with three wires that needs to be disconnected. Tape it up so it doesn't get ruined.

Just make sure that the heat senser on the cylinder head is still working through that tan wire to the horn.
