VRO Audible/Visual Alarms... What do they mean?

I have an Economixer on a '78 Evinrude 140. The alarm on the dash is round, black, about two inches in diameter. It has a white "water drop" symbol in the center. On the left hand side is a yellow light, which stays on all the time. On the right hand side is a red light which comes on, with the audible alarm, at start up, and then shuts off.

Could anybody tell me what the yellow light means? Does it just mean the VRO is functioning? Or is it a warning of something?

Thanks.

Brett..... There is no method whereas you can install a VRO on that engine (1978 140hp). If you are speaking about one of those old "economix" tanks that existed for a short time priod to the introduction of the 1984 VRO setup.... then, I strongly suggest that you discard it and premix your fuel and oil.

Re: VRO Audible/Visual Alarms... What do they mean?

Joe,

I don't know much about this boat. I inherited it and am trying to figure it out. I am assuming the motor is a '78 since a)I found a '78 manual in the boxes of "boat stuff", and b)the photos and diagrams in the manual appear to match the engine I have. I do know my dad ran the boat with this setup for years.

The item in question is mounted next to my fuel tank. It is a white, plastic ~4gal tank with oil. On top of it is mounted a black box. The fuel line enters this black box from the fuel tank, then a line exits the other side of the black box and goes to the motor. You can see the oil being "poofed" into the fuel on the exiting side of the black box.

Is this the "Economix tank" you are referring to? If so, why do you recommend I discard it if it? Also, do you have any ideas on the specifics of the warning lights I mentioned?

Thanks. :)
