I had a fella ask me an interesting question last week while I was converting his old style '85 VRO 70hp to pre-mixed gas. (no wire type) "Won't the oil side of the pump wear out faster now that the oil flow has been stopped?" he asked. I responded that I have been converting these VROs for some time without any problems and that the gas going through is mixed so it should be OK, but realized I do not really know for sure. I converted my own '85 VRO 70hp 2 years ago that also had the old type VRO but the hours probably do not amount to more than 200 since then. Likewise with the handful of the others I have "deleted" the VRO by capping the oil line and using the fuel pump side only. This guy will be running the motor daily and will rack up a whole lot of hours in a hurry. He raises an interesting question... Anybody have direct experience with a converted VRO pump after extensive use? Is the mixed gas passing through enough to protect the whole pump?
Cheers guys.
