This is an Evinrude E150STLCOS. The VRO Has been "disconnected" so I was told. What appears to have happened is that the oil line has been disconnected going into the fuel/oil feed on the outside of the motor. The wires have been disconnected from the pump. No hoses have been blocked/disconnected. Everything looks to be intact. The previous owner disconnected it because he was scared of it. The engine has been running off of premix for about a year and a half. My question. Can I clean out all of the hoses associated with the oil system, or replace them, and get an oil tank, and hook everythig back up correctly and go?

Re: VRO Disconnected

Sure, but you need to verify all alarms and wiring, and run premix until you are sure the oil pump operates properly. Usually the oil supply line is capped. Is yours?

There may be a filter in the oil tank. You will want to replace it and properly bleed the oil line of air.

What year is the motor?

Re: VRO Disconnected

Is the oil supply line capped? Nope, but it is plugged with dirt/mudd. Does that count as capped? Don't beat me up, I know it doesn't. Yes it is a 1985. No low oil alarm. I talked with the local repair shop today about it, and the quote was 1K to replace the tank/pump, and get it all hooked up. I am still debating on that one. Not bashing the repair, just trying to decide if the small inconvience of mixing is worth the 1k. I have another more pressing issue to deal with right now that is in another thread. This will have to take second in line, unless there is a very unsafe condition that i don't know about with the curent configuration still hooked up, just no oil tank.

I would cap the oil line where it comes out of the VRO and continue to premix. but thats just me.

I am with sparkie on this one...$1k to repair an old OMS system, that likely has dirt in the oil side is too much and too risky.

I agree with the others. $1K to repair seems like a waste on your old engine. I have an 85 also but when my VRO started giving me oiling alarms I disconnected it and went to premix. I am a believer in the VRO system but spending that kind of cash on a 26 year old system doesn't make sense. JMO!
