Ok, so on our last outting a couple of weeks ago, everything was working fine, we took the boat out and it ran flawlesly. We got a "low oil horn" because our VRO tank was down to 1/4 full. We also had an issue with running out of fuel with a 1/4 tank left. To correct that I removed the anti-siphon barb fitting on our 30gal fuel tank outlet. Problem solved. I also filled the oil tank and primed it with the ball. So, onto today...
Our '89 GT150 with VRO-II fired up at the ramp first try, as usual, then stalled a few times, again, as usual!!! We then took off down river and all seemed fine. About an 1/8 mile down river the NO OIL Horn sounded and I shut it down instantly. I checked all connections, pumped the ball a couple times, refired and it was good. We ran it to the next idle zone a few miles down river, after a couple minutes, the NO OIL Horn sounded once again, I went back, opened the hatch and pumped the ball a couple times and it stopped, but at idle it was going off every few minutes, pumping the ball would shut it off. Another run at cruising speed, no issues, but it continued to go off at idle speed every few minutes and it sputtered and stalled a few times at idle as well. So we turnned back, and on the last run at cruising speed it went off as well, requiring a couple of pumps on the primer ball. The ball was pretty firm the whole time, but a few good squeezes would silence the alarm for a short while.
I am sorry for writing a book but wanted to give as much info as possible. We are guessing that the VRO/fuel pump is going bad. Any opinions or advice will be greatly welcomed! Please Help! We just want ONE trip on our "New To Us" boat to go without incident! Thanks!!!
