WHile reading a previous thread someone posted a link to a charty for spark plugs. I went and looked since I'm trying to learn and on pg. 2 of the PDF under my motor (48 Evinrude) it says see "note 3" and it says applies to VRO / OMS Motors and recommends a "QL Suppressed" Plug. SOmeone please explain this to me so I can make sure I do this right and maybe a reason why would help me as well since the motor (used) came with no manual. Thanks, DN

What is the model number of your 48? That will help figure out the proper plug.

E48ESLESA 1990 based off the model number as I was told it was a 89 when I purchased it this last weekend but on the evinrude site the model number for a 89 is different that what's on the tag.

On a side note if you have any lower end experience could you check my other thread regarding my lower end woes I've been writing about in my other thread. Thanks!!

The proper plug is the Champion QL78. The Q stands for resistor or "Quiet". Your outboard is a 1990 unless someone changed out the transom mount. There should also be a welch plug the size of a quarter somewhere on the power head with the model number stamped on it.
