Hi all I posted this topic last week but I was having problems with this sight. Anyway I have a 99 Johnson 70hp that I got on my new to me 99 key largo. So I put new champion plugs in when I got it and did comp test when I went to see the boat and one age after I used it 3 times and the comp was good at 130 in each cyl. So I have had the boat out 8 or so times and it's been great but the last 2 times at low speed or trolling the engine seems to fill with oil. I have a fishing hole where I need to keep the engine just in gear to move me slow till I'm in open water witch is maybe 10 but when I go to give it gas it bogs down and stalls then starts back up and stalls again when I go to give it gas but if I Rev it fist and let it burn off the oil it's fine. Now yes it has the vro still and yes the primer ball stays hard. I pulled the plugs after the last ride and they are black and oil covered. So is it a vro pumping to much oil or the carbs to rich. Should I put new plugs in and use it and just live with it running to much oil. Thanks to all of you

You could have a fuel restriction and that will make the vro pump too much oil.

I removed the fuel line and pushed on the center and pumped the ball and the fuel came out like there was no tomorrow. O and the fuel filter is new and there are no leaks at the vro I checked today.

I just went through this with a similar 70. There are a couple tests you need to preform as set out in the manual. The first is a vacuum test gauge on the fuel system to check for fuel restrictions. The other is you use a piece of clear vinyl hose 1/4"id and and hook it to the oil in on VRO pump. Thats the back fitting on the bottom. You fill it with oil. Run engine and it should use three inches of oil for each 6-8 clicks of pump motor. When ever you are messing with the VRO make sure you run engine on 50:1 in the fuel tank. Anyways, the manual covers all this thoroughly and its all pretty easy.
