Hi everyone. I was wanting to get some opinions on whether to rebuild my VRO or just convert to a straight fuel pump on a 94 Evinrude intruder175. My no oil horn and light go off in the mornings when it is real cold. Around 40 degrees air temp or less. This has went on for a number of years and I always felt that it was just thicker oil when cold. Last week, it went off when it was a warm day in the 70s. I was wondering if was caused by a weak oil side diaghram or maybe damaged. The engine is pushing a 481 Ranger Comanche. Once I crank up in the morning after a bout of being cold natured, it cranks up fine the rest of the day. However, sometimes when I crank up, it idles fine but when put into gear, it goes dead. It cranks right back up does it again several times. Then it takes off like nothing was wrong. This is with good plugs. Maybe heat soak ? I recently rebuilt this engine and it ran perfectly the first few trips to the lake. It had blown in November on a cold morning. The warning horn had gone off that morning and usually when that happens I will add some oil to the gas just in case the VRO was failing. I neglected to that on this particular morning and it blew two cylinders. I was concerned that my VRO on the gas side was also weak, so that is why I am thinking about changing over to just a new fuel pump. Or, Should I just buy myself a rebuild kit for the current VRO ? Thanks !

Rebuild the VRO pump and go to pre mix or you will need to find a double pump for a V6.
