vro or not

I have to make a decision. Your input is appreciated. I have a rebuilt 1993 200 hp evinrude, I have diagnosed that my fuel/vro pump is not working properly. There is a kit that allows me to replace the pump with a fuel only pump ( it is also 100.00 less exspensive )than a new fuel/vro pump. Obviously if I go fuel only I have to pre-mix the fuel and oil. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: vro or not

Howdy, Tux.

VRO is very convenient and uses less oil than premix. .. . .when it works.

I have disconnected oil injectors on every oil injected engine I ever had, Including the 130 Yamaha I have now.

My reason is that I KNOW that if the engine is running it is adequately lubricated. So I go to the mess and trouble of premixing.

Many (most) oil injection systems work for years without any problems. But when one breaks you need a new engine.

You can trade risk for convenience. It is your choice. :)

Re: vro or not

If it were my engine I would DEFINATELY disconnect the VRO.

Re: vro or not

I have my vro disconnected for 3 years now on 150 johnsons, and not one problem. You dont need another pump, just close the oil induction side of vro pump and use the gas pump in the unit.
