vro pump question

The mechanic that I use was just telling me that the fuel pump is going to fail because I disconnected the VRO. I plugged it and added the oil to the fuel. The motor is a 96 Johnson 150hp. Anyone ever heard of this?

Re: vro pump question

As long as the gasoline side of the pump is functioning properly, there is no reason that plugging the oil side of the pump should cause any problems.

Re: vro pump question

I've heard (but never verified) that when you plug the oil side, after a while that side of the pump is ruined. But I've never heard that it ruins the pump as a whole or specifically, the fuel side. I had a VRO pump w/ the oil side plugged which worked for many years just fine.
