I have another thread going about my boat not running right, but on a slightly different subject on this, can anyone tell me the differences on these pumps?
I have a 1995 50HP Johnson with a VRO pump, I have a good feeling that the pump is causing my issues. With that said, I'm debating on what to do. I also have a 1986 Evinrude Xp150 with a VRO pump. About 5yrs ago, I had to rebuild the XP150 because of a stuck ring, so while at it I went ahead and replaced the VRO pump with a brand new one, because I didn't want any issues with a 20+yr old pump failing and causing an oiling issue and I didn't want to premix on this boat. With that said, I still have what was working at the time VRO pump off of that boat.
The model # on the 50hp VRO is 5007421
The model # on the 150XP VRO is 5007423
I've compared the two pumps side by side as best as I can....the 50hp pump is still on the boat. From what I can tell they are identical with one exception, the XP150 pump has the outlet to the carbs facing the Starboard side of the boat and on the 50hp pump the outlet faces the Port side.
Any idea if these are interchangeable if I get past that issue? Or is the 150 pump going to be stronger? What about robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak and trying to patch the 50hp pump to make it operational to see if that is indeed my issue?
FYI, I'm not using the Oil injection on the 50hp as it's blocked off and thus I've been premixing. I'm also wondering about the pulse limiters. I see a part # listed for the 50hp but not for the 150, but there again, i have the 'Was Working' one from the 150 replacement.
I'm also considering trying to fire the boat with the fuel line unhooked from carbs to see what kind of fuel flow/pressure I'm getting. Can anyone tell me what the pressure should be?
