After some troubleshooting I am pretty sure my fuel pump is the issue. Motor is a 86 60hp evinrude. After reading several threads on here I decided to just pull the vro pump and put the older style non-vro fuel pump on. My question is after I unhook the vro pump(3 wire model) do I need to do anything else or do I just need wrap the connector in the motor with tape?

Just disconnect the oil sending unit as well and you should be good to go. Oh yea, and add oil to fuel. Hahahaha.

When I started pulling things apart I found the one fuel line was dry rotted, it didnt appear to have any leaks but thinking it may have just been a pin hole somewhere I replaced the lines and put the VRO pump back on. It started and idled fine and would accelerate to top speed but would then start to hesitate or loose rpms. If the bulb was squezzed it would pick back up. I pulled everything again this time i pulled the fitting for the pulse line and it appears to have something simliar to steel wool in it. Should there be any filter type material(metal) in this fitting? Compression checked out so I never looked any deeper now I am wonder if I have a parts motor on my hands.
