VRO Running on three cylinders?

I have an 18ft McKee Craft powered by a J/E VRO 120. The motor is a mid 90's model and has been running great since the boat was purchased about a year ago. Lately it hasn't been running as great. It seems the motor is shutting down and running on three cylinders? Sometimes you will be running and it will kick back up to four. Sometime it will run on 4 like there is no problem. I have changed the oil filter and spark plugs, and I am thinking about changing the fuel pump. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

check for a bad coil. check your spark.

The fuel pump and oil pump cannot be cylinder specific. They supply fuel and oil before the carburetors.

As TD suggested, check your spark. The easisest way is with an inductive timing light. Clamp the inductive end to each plug wire until you find out which one is showing a miss.

Were any of the spark plugs real clean? If so, you may have a head gasket issue.
