VRO to regular fuel pump??

I actually had this question in another thread, but really the topic has changed. So, I thought I would get a better response in it's own thread/

I've got an '87 60hp Evinrude (E60ELCUC). When I got it the VRO had been disconnected. I'm wanting to replace the VRO pump with a fuel pump, because I suspect that the VRO is giving me some problems... and I don't want to drop the coin for a new VRO. Does anyone know if there is a fuel pump that I could switch to? If so, do you know what the part number is??

Re: VRO to regular fuel pump??

any of these will work fine. they are BRP pumps, there is not an aftermarket pump. this is a 3 line pump, fuel in, fuel out, and the pulse line from the old vro pump. just discard any old oil lines.

you can use your old vro pump as just a fuel pump just snip the grey wire going to it that is the alarm wire and block off the tube that went to the oil tank, if you dont want to do that you can just pull the vro and run a standard omc fuel pump, if your vro is acting up they do make a repair kit for it

Re: VRO to regular fuel pump??

Tashasdaddy is right, I have an 89 Evinrude 50hp VRO that I removed the pump on last week. The VRO has the in and out fuel lines, but also has a seperate pulse line from the engine. If you order the nonVRO replacement pump for that year, it will not have the third nipple for the pulse, the pulse is generated on the back of the pump. I had to order a fuel pump for a 1993 50HP non-VRO since it had the third nipple for the pulse line.

You'll need to make some minor modifications to get the new pump mounted safely, and possibly shorten the pulse hose for a good fit.

Re: VRO to regular fuel pump??

guys he is already having problems with the fuel side of the old pump, the easiest change over is the pump i gave him. he has a 3 cylinder 60 hp, not a 2 cylinder 50hp, which has the bosses for the 2 line pump.
