ok, here is the short of it. someone gave me an old robalo center console that needs some work. it has a 1987 225 rude on it and it has not been cranked in a couple of years. he said it ran good before his granson got hold of it so he was not sure what the deal was. I took the plugs out and squrted the cylinder with sea foam and spun it over. then i did a compression check ,all good. I got a plastic tank and hooked up to it and sprayed the carbs with seafoam not knowing what to expect. as soon as i touched it it started fine and idled for about five min with the muffs on. i shut it down and looked things over good then unhooked the gas line sprayed carbs with sea foam again, then fired it and idled the fuel out of the carbs. after that i was poking around and realized that the vro was unplugged. GRRRRRRR . I cant belive i missed that the first time.

Do yall think i hurt it bad since it had no oil in the gas? i guess the smoke i was seeing was from the sea foam in the cylinders and carbs. it may have ran between 5 and 10 min total and never came off idle

Did you disconnect the oil hose or the wiring?

The VRO and OMS pumps are completely mechanical. The wiring is only for the alarm system.

You probably did not harm it in five minutes of running. The oil in the float bowls and lines would have to have been used up before the motor got to pure gasoline.

Just be sure that you prime the oil line before attaching it to get all of the air out.

i think im ok, last night, i re checked the compression and all 6 were basically 115 give or take a psi or 2. then i shot 2 stroke oil in each for good measure and gave it a spin. after that i mixed up a gallon a little rich and ran it on the muffs for about 10 min or so and everything seems to be fine. next post i make is going to be some water leak questions but i need to find some pics to point out the leaks to see if i need to fix them

Don't forget that gasoline is a very thin oil and at idle the lubrication requirements of the motor are minimal.

Factory testing in the past had motors idling over 1/2 hour on straight gas without any significant wear.
