Perhaps your engine momentarily picked up a plastic bag which cover the water intake area (it happens). Stopping the engine and/or tilting it releases the bag resulting in having nothing to indicate what caused the problem.

However, should the overheat warning sound (constant) occur again, I'd strongly suggest you replace the water pump assy. Even if the bag was originally the problem, running the unit without supplying water to the pump for an undetermined period would damage the impeller.
