I have been reading posts about people disconnecting the oil pump on their VRO engines. I'm assuming the reason for this pump failure? I have not owned one of these engine before, but I'm looking at getting a boat with a 88 Johnson 90.
Would it be possible to put a pressure sensor on the oil lines that ran to a sensor on the console? I'm not sure if this is something that would work, but to me it seems like an extra way of knowing your pump is functioning.

Re: Vro

It already has a vacuum sensor AND a level sensor in the oil tank, it starts beeping when the oil level drops below 1/4 full.
Some guys disconnect the oil system just because they heard its the best way. I like using mine but if the pump breaks I will probably go to premix based on the cost.

the pump already has an oil pressure sensor on it and it compares the pressure pulses with the rpm to see if they are within specs. If not, the NO OIL alarm sounds and if you have a 1996 or later motor, the NO OIL light comes on also.
