RodBolt and Ray: This is for you guys.

Should the VST pump chamber be full or empty during winterization? It's easy to empty, but wondered if there is any advantage to leaving it that way?

Also, I have concerns about refilling it with just the primer bulb. Wouldn't pumping it full put only gas in the chamber and no oil? The way I understand it, the engine must run to get oil to mix with the gas in the VST chamber.

I just treat the fuel and leave it in. I have seen them go bad more sitting dry than wet.
I know yamaha says to drain them but the past 7 years has taught me otherwise.

IMHO. If it ain't in there, it can't go bad. ;)

Re: VST Pump Chamber Winterization

willy
the problem is when the tankis empty the pump tends to corrode. it also holds a small amount of fuel that wont drain due to internal check valves. with carbs I use the "if it aint there it cant go bad method:)" with the VST I have found less problems with leaving it full and treated than empty.
just an observation. but with pumps at 750 or so I try not to let them Die :) .
