Wack! I didn't need that eye anyway....

This past weekend while launching the boat I end up leaning over the trailer tongue by the winch, then stand up and turn my head quickly and smash the side of my left eye right into the point of the bow rail. Ouch! It did smart, but I kept on launching. My brothers wife says "your bleeding", and I can feel it and see the drops of blood in the water. So I slosh over the side view mirror of the car and check it out. Yep, split the skin open right on the edge of the eye. Skin is thin there, and a ridge on the skull cut right through. Oh well, back to launching.

Now its bleeding pretty bad, but I figure it will stop in a while. People are telling me to get stitches and all. I'm trying to launch, for crying out loud! Whats more important? Stitches or launching??? I am ready to compromise and just put duct tape on it. Finally my brothers wife goes across the street and gets band aids from who knows where and that's it.

BTW, I completely forgot about the first aid kit on the boat.

We ended up going out and having a great trip. Next day my eye is black like I was punched out. Its still a little purple around the outer edge.

Got to watch out for the bow rail.

Launching a boat is dangerous! I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, hopefully all goes well. One time I was cranking my friend's boat up the trailer, a 22' center console (heavy as sin!!) and the lock on the winch broke. That thing spun around and caught me square on the chin!! It felt like I just took a shot from Mike Tyson, and boy, did I see some stars. . It just split my chin, and there was a little bit of blood. It hurt like heck though, but I was fine two days later.

This is not the first time I smacked my head on the bow rail doing the exact same thing. The bow rail sticks out past the point of the bow by a few inches, and i guess looking down, i see the bow, and forget the rail is farther out.

I'll learn eventually. :D

BTW, its healing up nicely. I think it just looked worse than it was.

Just rub some dirt on it, you'll be alright......That's just another part of owning and Boating. Glad you had a good time out.

I thought the exact same thing! Just put it on to launch and retrieve, would only take a couple of seconds! Besides, think what might have happened if you actually hit your eye instead of directly beside it! I have been the the doctor twice for scrathes on my eye and will not take any chances anymore. I value my eyesight too much!

super glue:D

and/or butterfly bandages.

I have found that if you can close a rip with butterfly bandages while it is still fresh and bleeding well enough so you don't leak to death, it'll usually heal in a couple of days.

Well all told I am glad you are ok!

Also glad to see I'm not the only one who gets beat up by inanimate objects occasionally LOL

Be careful out there!

Well glad you seem to have your priorities in the right place. Lets see ... launch the boat ... get cut fixed ... launch the boat ... get the cut fixed, hmmm, definitely launch the boat and go and enjoy. :)

first, from what I've gathered about impatience at the boat ramp, if you had paused 30 seconds to tie a tournequet to a bloody stump you'd be hearing about it here the next day!
On an old power wince the handle stays on b/c it needs some assist. It's old and rusty. I got distracted and it caught me across the chest, wound my shirt up and cut a perfect semi-circle on my chest.
But seriously, there is a lot of force, energy and gravity going on at the launch and retrieve and it's no time to be rushed, tired or sloppy.
