I was a marine mechanic in Fla. and this guy with a 26 footer and a Volvo I/O v-8 flooded his engine bad. He asked for my help so I took off the flame arrestor and saw the intake was full of fuel. I opened the throttle all the way, and stuck a long screwdriver down the throat of the carb to keep the choke butterfly from closing, cause we had to vent this gas so the motor would start. After awhile we decided to start it, I wanted to start it but the owner also wanted to start it. So ok, he tries to start it, my screwdriver is still holding the choke open. Well it starts up and at full throttle, this is no problem for me, but I'm not up at the helm. The motor is running at full throttle in neutral. If it were me I just simply turn the key to "off."<br /><br />This guy forces the throttle handle past neutral into reverse, a loud bang occurs, and I finally get their to shut the motor off.<br />Well we flag down the fork lift driver, he picks the boat up at the dock, and what a sorry sight did our eyes behold! The out drive was dangling by the shift cable. Yep it busted everything with that high speed neutral drop!<br />I commented "Ive seen worse than that", and walked away, not knowing whether to laugh or cry!
