Wait! Lettme wipe the "SUCKER" off my forehead! Need Help!!

So I saw it out of the corner of my eye, my next boat.
OK, the motor (140 Merc) is seized, EVERY rubber bellow on the out drive is ripped, (I"m sure the "U" joint is a rust mess, the shifter cable dead as well).
Prop looks like he tried to carve a rock!
It does have a NEW alt, thought!
Interior is crap, but, the Siren is calling me!
Must be a '69 ish Starcraft Holiday 19' open bow.
I THINK I can make her into a great fishing boat............
I found long blocks for sale, the seats for the interior.
But I can't seem to find bellow kits.
It looks like a "Pre Alpha" with the eyelet and fins, the location of the lift rams.
I tried to look under a few different things, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
Exhaust bellow, "U" joint bellow, shifter cable.
Is there a different name of out drive back in the ealry 70's late 60"s
What am I doing wrong on the search?
I wanna get an idea of what it's gonna cost me, IF the parts are out there.

You're looking at the wrong boat. Even if it's free .. take a pass & keep looking.

Agreed, no real parts are available for the drive system.

If its open bow its not a Holiday unless a previous owner cut out the closed bow.

Aluminum boats w siezed motors are exactly what the guys hanging out in the Starcraft forum are looking for.

They all look for donor boats to pull complete engines and outdrives from.

Not looking at the wrong boat, unless you dont want a project. Besides, if its a late 60s boat, its nearly 50yrs old. I am too and I could certainly use an overhaul too...

As w most things that 'go wrong' w boats, IMO, a small 120/140 I/O setup is often found in lower cost entry level boats that are considered disposable by many people. Their money to waste. If they didnt there wouldnt be any cheap rigs out there to rehab.

WOW...okay if you already bought this....Uh....boat....then I guess you have a ton of work ahead of you. I have to say, you will not be using this boat this year... If you haven't already bought it, what is the draw? If you seriously like it that much, then go for it... It can be fixed, but not without a lot of work and money! JMHO!

Hey that sounds like a dream boat Starcraft but yeah open bows are the SS model, that is if it's aluminum... right?

Nothing you described even made me raise an eyebrow, only more interested in the boat as an opportunity to see something made great again. Throw away society with people all wanting a cookie cutter glass tub to ruin and move on to another one.

More than once in my life, I've DRAGGED things from the back of farmer's fields, home, had the mice scamper out as I pried open the doors.
Not "restored", but "fixed them up", sold them.
Cars, trucks, jeeps, motorcycles, the house I live in, 2 sailboats, the Grumman SF19 I fish out of now, all ended up at the "Island of Misfits" as my family calls my shop.
This boat is like that. I just look at it like a project! I like the deep "V" and the new alt!!
Maybe reality has set in, IF I can't find parts for it, I'm sure as heck not gonna get 99% done and find I can't get a seal or??
Maybe I'll pass, there is a 25' sailboat in Clayton N.Y. that looks like it's needs me!

Then yep, you were looking at the wrong boat.

I dont get how you can look at the Chief in Watermanns signature link, see how great it turned out, see the enjoyment it brought throughout the process regardless of how it appeared when he brought it home, and NOT see it as enviable and worth every penny, drop of sweat or blood.

And 'worth' significantly more then the amount he invested in it, and equal to similar but very expensive new rigs.

Would that be a #1 or "R" drive? That's what my '76 is, or was there a different outdrive before the #1?

if you buy it, hold on to the new alternator that has your attention and scrap everything else from the front pulley to the prop. then search for a newer (like a 25 year old 1991 or newer) donor boat for a running and functioning 3.0 and Alpha/Gen II to put into it.

Like a bad case of, "Wolves Desease", (you know, she looked HOT last night at the bar at 2 A.M., but in the morning you naw your arm off so you won't move it and wake her and sneak out), Once again you guys have made sense.
IF it needed a drive line, OK, IF it needed a interior OK, IF it needed a trailer, OK, but, like my spouse has pointed out, "If you take ALL the $$ your gonna put inot it, you can get a better boat!

No way you could get a boat as nice as Robs Chief for twice what he has in his rebuild. Not one thats nearly 100% rebuilt, better then it was originally, and a completely new boat in nearly every way but its original hull and its great running donor boat 4.3L.

But people that dont believe that just leave more projects out there for those that do.

Like I said before, turns out you were looking at the wrong boat. If for no other reason then keeping the Airal happy, follow her advice.

Hey Joe be sure to post up some pics of that better boat when or if you get it. I see guys all over the forum getting that boat deal of a lifetime for cheap, especially in the motor forums.
