Wake Tower help

So Dad got a Bayliner Capri 2050 (not sure what year - 1995 ish) with a Mercury 200 outboard about 5 years ago and I have been wakeboarding behind this for about 2 years.

It has a triangle metal thing that is mounted to the boat with soft rubber with leather over it so the tow point sits about 1.5 feet above the engine. I can 180 and grab but want to progress more.

I have ridden behind boats with waketowers, they are really nice. I was wondering if anyone puts wake towers on outboard boats and does it work well.

Also Dad likes to go spear fishing and what not so how can I convince him to get a wake tower if its a good idea? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Wake Tower help

I have wake boarded behind both inboards and out boards. With and w/o wake board tower...If you want a wake board tower and dad's willing, then do it. There's not a huge difference between Outboard w/ tower and I/O with tower as far as wakes go...that's more a boat style/size/design thing. Inboards are where the difference start to happen as the how the boats are designed and sit in the water...plus internal bladders for lowering the boat deeper in the water which creates the monster waves!

Re: Wake Tower help

"Picture this Dad, with the tower on you can stand on top and look almost straight down all around the boat. Think of the fun you'll have diving in from up there. Or just shoot from on top and you'll feel like Captain Ahab hunting the white whale."
Well, maybe that won't work but if you try it with a pirate accent...

Aside from that, the tower is a good place to store clumsy stuff like your board and his spear guns or shafts, as well as the rope. As Brett said, the tower can help. Adding water ballast can help. Also, making sure you are not using a 'ski' rope is important.

Re: Wake Tower help

Thanks for the replies guys. Also the boat is in getting all its upholstery replaced and we have this canopy overhead thing that can be removed. Will the waketower go overtop of that? Also have you got any pictures of outboards with a waketower? Thanks

Re: Wake Tower help

As long as you have the horsepower (which you do) a wakeboard tower should be a good addition to your boat. The higher pull angle and ability to store your gear on the tower, adding speakers for better sound, mounting a bimini, etc. are some nice things about having a wakeboard tower. Plenty of good ones out there, and winter is a good time to buy one as there are often sales or discounts this time of year.
