Re: Wake tower on a Chris Craft
Well of course as soon as I start looking at a big purchase for the boat something goes wrong...
I was out for what will now be the last time this season. Got up early everything was going especially well and everyone I brought was enjoying the best wakeboarding we have done yet.
I had some other people meeting us and they had jet skis. Well about 1 o'clock the lake is still pretty empty so looks like we are going to get a full day of wakeboarding in and I decided to kill the motor and go for a short swim. I am in the water behind the boat and the jet skiers that joined us for the day we riding around when one of the skis throttle locked and wouldn't turn... And proceeded not to turn until it hit my boat.
It hit between the drivers seat and the sundeck. Right by the rear passengers seat. No one was hurt thank god. The jetski was fine as it hit with the nose. But my poor boat... It hit the banding that held the hull and cap together. Which from what i can see is best case scenario. The cap has a nasty looking crack but is otherwise intact. The metal banding is aluminum and I am not 100% sure but looks bent beyond repair.
The hull is broken through but not beyond repair. It basically has two parallel cracks running from the top of the hull to about 10 inches below the top. They are probably 15-20 inches apart. They are both above the waterline so I made it back to dock and got everything loaded up.
My poor boat is now in the process of being repaired...
But I have found a wake tower that I like more than the monster tower. It is called an Aerial tower. If you do a search you can see them. They are a little cheaper and in my opinion they look much nicer.

I have a few worries though. It seems like monster has gone out of their way to do everything they can to make sure their tower doesn't hurt your boat or gelcoat. I am trying to find out if the Aerial tower will provide similar quality.
Another concern is that my boat is only 17' long. I am the largest person going to wakeboard but I am just a hair under 300 pounds. I can pull the boat right now using the transom mounting tow hook. I am not sure I want to picture myself outside of the wake using a wake tower that is 6 or 7 feet off the water. Kind of worried about how much I can pull the boat over. Just a bad mental picture...
Any questions or comments are graciously welcomed. I do have some pics if anyone is interested. But they are from a camera phone.
