Wakeboard Damage

Hey guys

i dont know if this is a common occurance or not. i have recently got into wakeboarding, and got myself a board.

However being new i fall off it quite alot when trying to do jumps etc. However ive had a few bad falls, sometime pulling the bindings off the board, often loosing the little wingnut. i have replacement wingnuts so this isnt a problem.

However i noticed that the screw holes that wingnuts go into are getting damaged, due to the fact that the screw is basically being ripped out.

Can these screw holes on the board be replaced/repaired/removed ?
Has anyone encountered this problem before ?
Is there anything you can do to stop this happening ? Other than falling off of course lol =)

I don't know what kind of board you got, I have not had that problem either you got a cheap board or it was a friday night special.

buy a tube of 3m 5200, and set the new ones in that. it will pull the guts out of the board, before it turns loose. takes a week to cure.

don't have the bindings so tight. Also eases the impact of a faceplant when your feet pop out of the bindings versus your feet staying in the bindings.

I have relatively limited experience wakeboarding, but i've been snowboarding for 13 years. The inserts are the same. I''ve never seen or heard of a binding coming off a board. The board would break, (or you would)first.

I'd take it back to the dealer.

the difference between wakeboarding and snowboarding is that when you catch an edge wakeboarding you stop immediately without any slide that you get when you snowboard. That is why i don't cinch my bindings up super tight on my feet so in case i catch an edge, my feet will pop out allowing for that needed slide.

I agree that you should definately be able to pop out of your bindings on a wakeboard. Catching a front edge into water hurts almost as much as it does onto hardpack.

That said, he still should not be having to worry about his inserts because they stripped out no matter how hard the wipe out.

i guess i think differently. i don't want my feet coming off the board for any reason, especially while doing jumps. i'll gladly take faceplants over having 1 foot come out, and 1 foot staying attached to the board, and twisted knees.

Do you know if a wake board could be used as a snowboard, I have never been snowboarding and would like to try. I am wondering is I would be able to use a single board for both.

I am thinking you could just remove the bottom fins.

What do you think?

Absolutely no way. It would be the exact same thing as trying to snowski on waterski's

1. they wouldn't even let you on the lift.

2. you'd have zero control because Snow boards use a metal edge to cut into the snow.

3. you'd destroy the bottom of the wakeboard on the snow.

4. You can't get snowboard bindings on a wakeboard and you'd get frostbite pretty fast if you were barefoot.

well, if you're one of those guys you can see on youtube, then by all means you wouldn't want your feet to come out. Just like world class skiers, they're bindings are as tight as you can get. But, if you're like me, I'm not going to worry about my feet coming out from doing a 360 flip with a full twist.

Also, a snowboard is very flexible. A wakeboard is not. Could you wakeboard with a snowboard???? I'd like to see it if it is indeed done because I haven't seen it.:):)

Well, what is YOUR opinion? Is it a good idea or a "hold my beer and watch this" move?

You can get a Snowboard to stay on top of the water with enough speed. But its not made to be submerged, and it might not float very well either.

Re: Wakeboard Damage

Hey guys time for an update. You wont actually believe this but its true. i took the board back to shop where i bought it and explained the problem. He took the board away and examined it and concluded it was unfixable.

He then proceeded to give me a new board (the same board with more expensive bindings) and give me some advice about using wakeboard slime when putting them on. Not that that was a problem.

anyway that was great i had the board for over 3 mnths and it had some wear and tear marks on it.

i think the problem was that not enough of the screw was into the board as they had a thick edge on the binding, the new one is flat so should be alot better.

hopefully it wont happen again
