Looking at building a wakeboard tower for my 95 Maxum cuddy. Anyone out there who has done this I would appreciate any advice. I feel one area that may be difficult is building my own boat mounts. If anyone has ideas or plans please pass on.

Thanks

Building a tower can be difficult. Stress points and mounting would be the most difficult. If you want you could go with a pylon. They are much simpler to fabricate than a tower. I built one that installs in about three minutes is rock solid and produces big air.

Re: Wakeboard Tower

I installed a Monster Tower over the weekend. Once you see how the joints work and how it folds down, it's pretty cool. I think you could probably build one for less than the $1,150 they get, but they definitely have it figured out. They probably have a picture of your boat on their site with one installed.

While I was cussing occassionally while installing it, I can't imagine the cussing I'd do by first building one THEN installing it.

Re: Wakeboard Tower

I built a tower last fall. I have been using it this spring and really like it. I used steel tubing 2" .065" wall. I had a local shop mandrel bend the two tubes I needed. The rear legs screw off if I ever need to fold it down. I did have the advantage of a 3D modeling program. I made one prototype out of 1 1/2" PVC pipe to get an idea of where the legs need to be and lengths, etc... Here is a linkTower to a thread I started on another board. If you want more pics, let me know and I can send them to you.

Chris

Re: Wakeboard Tower

We had a custom tower built a couple of years ago and the one thing that was very important was the use of Heim(sp) joints at the mounts. These allow the tower to flex and move in the side to side direction without translating this stress to the hull. This will keep the gel coat from developing those nasty spider cracks. So far things are working quite well. The Heim joints are mounted to CNC'ed mounts but they should be easy to replicate with some basic tools. I could take a pic and post if you are interested.
