Wakeboard Tower

So my friend bought one of those wakeboard towers, I think its called, Its a tower that goes in the middle of the floor of your boat. As you can tell I dont know much about them. Anyway I will be helping him install it, and I am pretty mechanacly inclined.....but I am wondering how long are we looking at for installation? a couple of hours....do most of thses have cables to support the top or how is it supported? Will the pole be through the floor or will there be a plate mounted to the floor then the pole goes into that??? any help would be greatful....

That's considered a pylon, not a tower. A pylon usually only takes an hour or so for installation. There are several different types but for the most part there will be a base plate on the floor that the pylon connects to on the bottom, two support rods that connnect to base plates on the rear of the boat, and a cable that attaches to the front of the boat. The cable won't require any real installation so you're basically looking at bolting 3 plates to the boat (2 in the rear and 1 on the floor).

Towers are sort of metal cages that mount to the sides of the boat and have a crossbar on top that the ski rope ties to. Tower installation is usually a lot bigger project.

hi fillowme (for lack of names here). your friend will have to look at the long term before diving into drilling or cutting. i always cringe at the fact that people want to drill holes into their boat like that without any real experience in properly protecting the wood and fiberglass from long term damage, expecially in an environment surrounded by water. unfortunately, you cant go back once you start drilling. the caulking will eventually break down and crack, so make sure your buddy is prepared to maintain it. good luck!

Who says you can't go back? That's the beauty of fiberglass, you can repair it very easily.
