Anybody wakeskate on here? I have a wakeboard and am looking into wakeskating. Can you start in the water just like a wakeboard?

Yes. Position yourself just like you would for a wakeboard except maybe have your feet just a little closer to the heel edge of the board. When the boat starts to pull you, your body will ball up as usual and that will keep enough pressure on the board to get up. I got it first try. Out of our group (all regular wakeboarders), only one person had to try it a second time to get it right.

So, how do you guys like it compared to wakeboarding? I am just tired of having to worry about jacking my knees up from wrecking on the wakeboard and thought that wakeskating might be safer on the knees.

Re: Wakeskate

i prefer it over wakeboarding. i got in to it when i tore my mcl and couldn't wake board because of the possibly of twisting from being attached to the board. it is easier on the knees and you dont face plant when you catch and edge, alway a plus:D. its more chalanging and i just liek the freedom of not being strapped to the board it has a surfing kind of feel. another plus you dont need a big wake so you can use smaller boat or a jet ski.

getting up is mostly the same BUT...if you cheat at all, the board will shoot out on you. by cheating, i mean on a wakeboard you lean into your bindings at all rather than staying neutral over the board. you'll find out.

be careful though, you can still get hurt on a wakeskate. i've read that hips and femurs get hurt more on wakeskates whereas knees and ankles get hurt on wakeboards.

personally, i've broken a femur on a wakeskate. jumping wake to wake gone bad.
