Waking up a 1985 Evinrude 140 (Looper). Fuel Pump Question

I had my 140 Evinrude running 2 years ago on the stand. It's been almost 5 years since it ran on the boat. Two years ago I fogged it and ran it out of fuel. I now want to get her going as I plan on running it at some point this summer.

Last time it ran, there was fuel seeping out the fuel pump seam. It still has the original VRO pump on it, but the oil line has been plugged since it was new and premix was run.

I'd like to replace the pump with a non-VRO pump. Does someone have a part number for a genuine Evinrude pump that will fit?

I'm going to rebuild the carbs, change the thermostats, and have the lower unit checked also.

I am not sure what the part number is but you could look up a fuel pump for a pre-vro 140 and that should be your part. you can also order a VRO fuel side only rebuild kit. You cannot rebuild the oil side but since you are not using it anyway. there are also VRO style fuel only pumps available for about $200 less than the VRO pumps.

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe the VRO came out in 1985? And a 1984 140 is a cross flow motor so I wasn't sure if fuel pumps would be the same. I will have to look up the VRO fuel side rebuild kit. Thanks.

you are right about it being a looper and a much bigger block. there are a lot of post here how to do away with the VRO, you have to create a bracket for the fuel pump to attach to and get the fuel pump that has the pulse hose connection. so it will have 3 hose connections and will not bolt to the block like the old style crossflows. I will do a search
