Re: Walker downrigger Adjustable Release,

Assuming you have it attached correctly, meaning snapped to the downrigger cable terminal end and then the other end snapped to your cannonball, you "snap" the line from your rod into one side of the release, then wrap the "leader" end of your line around the release once or twice (this also should be snapped into the release). Play with the adjustment until it feels right for the diameter/type of line you are using. Just be aware that with these releases, you can't just grab your rod out of the rodholder and jerk your line out of the release like you can with the clamp-type releases. You must first let out a bunch of slack into your line (and make sure the boat is still moving forward at least 1 or 2 mph) and then jerk it out. If the slack isn't long enough to angle the line at the top of the release out away from the stern of the boat before you try to release it, you could very easily break your rod (trust me!).

Re: Walker downrigger Adjustable Release,

no, no, no! you ADJUST these properly according to lure type/weight and targeted species. line/lure releases automatcally. just don't adjust too tightly. let slack out of your line as mentioned above and your fish is gone. if adjusted properly you will never have to grab your rod and jerk the line out of the release. might as well be using rubber bands.
