Wallace and Grommets...

Thought of the British claymation characters Wallace, and his dog grommet. They are always tinkering with inventions. Anyway, i'm referring to the grommets in my thermostat housing. I am replacing both of them (there are two) that the control valves sit in. My original service manual doesnt mention them or if I need to coat them in some sort of gasket adhesive when replacing them. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Maybe they just get pushed in and stay put!

I've always put a very THIN line of 3M-847 around the outside when installing them.
