Re: Walleyehed, Chopper prop questio
Ahhhh,,,, Grasshopper.

When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, you will be ready to leave......

har, har, har,,,,

I see you are entering the realm of high performance boating.

*
I insert chuckle here
*

In my experiance, if you're trying to get up out of the hole with a chopper like you were driving a car on a dirt road,,,,,,,

just keep pushing on the gas, but don't let the engine over-rev. and wait until it bites..... it never will.

Forget the cav. or ventilation plate.
If the prop arc is even with, or a little above the bottom of the hull,

that's a good place to start if you're interested in top end.

With a set up like that, to get up & out of the hole-----

Hammer it. Try to keep the tach at, or just under 7000.

You'll know in a few seconds if it'll come up & out or not. If it don't, let the tilt down a bit. If that doesn't work, let the engine down on the mounts a inch and try again.

Once you get it up on plane or just moving forward in general,,,,,, don't let it back down. Stay on plane or above 3000rpm.

And remember:
High rooster tails, and obscenely nose high hull attitudes don't equate to more speed. They show that you're pushing water up into the air with gasoline and horsepower that you could better utilize by pushing your boat forward. And the higher your transom is, the less water it has to push out of the way instead of riding up & over it as the boat goes along.

A boat that goes through the water at speed with the most efficiency, only leaves a flat spot in the water behind it marked by steam and a swirl of exhaust bubbles.

I'm running a 26" Cleaver nowdays on POCO LOCO.
So far, we're at 77mph and 58-5900rpm, where I just run out of horsepower through a 1.87 LU. The only way to get it past 10mph is to just hammer it,,,,,, and wait. Your results should be similar.

Once the prop bites, the tach drops........ then you hammer it again, and the acceleration trys to make your sun glasses into contact lenses.
