If your current prop was a 14.25 X 27, Turbo 4 blade, on a merc 150 turning 5,300, Would this prop work out? It is also a 14.25, but a 28P. I can trim way out without loosing water preasure. Do Cleavers take more or less pitch in the same diameter?

Re: Walleyehed, Prop ???

The progression of pitch is much greater in a cleaver due to the thick trailing edge, so insted of cupping just the trailing edge, they build more actual pitch into the T.E, and as a result, they bite real hard, but they are designed for surfacing conditions at high speed and will hold better.
The trim factor will be less important than engine heigth with this prop.
If you own this prop, try it....I think you will see less bow-lift at the same trim angle, but as you know, each boat has it's own personallity, so it can't hurt to try.

Re: Walleyehed, Prop ???

I do not own it and will have to buy it to try it. I would like to try it on the Lavey Craft also with is a 21' Inboard outboard with a 454. The prop I mentioned earlier is on that boat now and runs about 64 MPH at about 4,500 RPM.

What I want to know is, if the other prop is turning a desognated RPM, would the Cleaver with one more pitch be about the same at WOT, Less, or more, do cleavers tend to raise or lower the WOT RPM if the same pitch and diameter. I tend to understand basic prop function with similar props, but over the hub and cleavers are a different bread all together.

Well if you put it on your 150, keep in mind, that anything above a 25P is not recommended or spec'd for that motor....

You probably know that already, but I'd be a little worried about stressing the unit abit too much....

Re: Walleyehed, Prop ???

I wasnt aware that there was a pitch recomendation for the 150. The Turbo 4 Blade 14.25 X 27P was the best prop I have tried yet on the boat. A good 2-3 MPH better than the High Five Im running now.

Can you answer the question about the RPM at WOT that I have.

I would like to try it on the Lavey Craft as if it worked well on it, I could buy the 14.25 X 27P that is on the boat now, and use the High Five for pulling tubs and such.

LD, the cleaver is gonna pull down some because it's designed to do it's work on the surface....it's blades are designed to exit and re-enter the water at a high rate of speed-unlike a standard prop.
As for specs on pitch..there are none, but I would be somewhat concerned on a solid hub installation.

Re: Walleyehed, Prop ???

Somehow, Im not getting across what I want to.

I understand how cleavers work, what i want to know is in relation to the WOT RPM of a standard type prop with the same number of blades, would a cleaver of the same diameter and pitch run higher, lower, or about the same at WOT.

I imagine they would be slower out of the hole, is this a correct asumption?

Lower RPM.
Hole-shot is a guess...it's all over-hub exhaust, but that sucker will bite.
