last year i bought two tm batteries from wallmart some say they have good luck others say they have a lot of bad luck looking at another combo battery for starting and all the electronics probably should get a 30 series for the extra power but what do you guys think about a wet cell or gell battery what is the best for this deal

Re: wallmart batteries

if you run an onboard charger, you may want to look at dry cells, I've found they take the charge/drain cycling a little better.

Re: wallmart batteries

I've been running the WalMart/Sams Club batteries for 10 years, have had good and bad luck with them. Since I've been using 2- 20 amp electronic chargers (with settings for for normal, deep cycle and AMG batteries) I've had much better luck with them. I have 4 that are from 2006>7 that are still holding a charge well.

I think my bad luck in the past was from neglect and using a poor quality charger on them.

(Hope I just didn't jinx myself )

Re: wallmart batteries

If you killed 2 batteries in a year I would look at how you take care of them, even the crappiest battery in the world should last at least 2 years.

Not saying you don't take care of your stuff but even the best battery will have a shorter service life in not maintained properly.

Make sure you get them on a good quality charger as soon as possible when you are done with the boat, if you let them sit discharged for a long time it will kill them pretty quick.

I use Wally World batteries and normally get 3-4 years out of them

Gel batteries are easy care, no maintenance you just need to be sure the charge rate is not too high I believe shouldn't exceed 14.30 volts.
Flooded batteries are generally less expensive and will perform well with proper care.Electric cars are very hard on batteries and the Trojan 30XHS 130 amp hour flooded batteries are known to last 3 years and many thousands of miles.(A Gem electric car can thake 6 of these down to 40% in an hour.
In selecting a battery literally the heavier the better. A lighter battery will discharge quicker. The less a battery discharges the more cycles it will have.
I think Trojans are one of the best but expensive and warrantee procedure can be complicated.Dollar for dallar I think the Deka batteries are excellent
to this point my warrantee experience has been excellent.

Re: wallmart batteries

I've been running my collection of trolling motors on Wallmart batteries for 10 years. I also run them in all my cars. My new boat will get two of them, Never felt I got less than my $'s worth with any of them. There may be better batteries out there but they are going to cost you CONSIDERABLY more.

p.s. Gel's are nice, I run them in my son's wheelchair (and get them off Ebay). BE prepaired to pay 2X the price for the same reserve power if you want gel though.

No problems with Wally World batteries here.

There are only a handful of battery manufacturers... the Walmart batteries are excellent batteries provided you don't buy the cheap line- buy the midgrade or better and you will be fine.

I have a Marine Cranking/Trolling batter which is still going strong after nearly six years, and a really big Trolling (deep cylce) battery which ran a 36# Minn Kota on my Niagara for 5 or 6 hours a day all summer long.

1/2 the price of a Die Hard and I think just as good.
