Haven't used one from WalMart, but at $40, how can you go wrong? Worst case, it needs to be replaced next season.

I had one a few years back for a Tracker ProTeam 185 Jet. It worked fine. The back corner ripped about a year and a half, but was still usable. And for 50 bucks I could have bought another one or two and still paid less than some other covers on the market!

well i just use the canvas top for support and the old trusty blue tarp. but for some reason i have convinced the wife that during boating season that the single carport is the boats home. and the car will survive outside. i don't know how i did it but oh well! :)

You get what you pay for with covers. IMO
It sounds like it'll work.

Re: walmart boat cover?

I am using a Walmart $45 cover on my 14' Mirrocraft. It has a couple of edge holes that were rubbed through by wind and chaffing on gunnel bolts/nuts. The light silver colored cover keeps the sun off the interior and deflects rain during the season. During the winter, I flip the boat over on the trailer to keep snow out of the boat (cover stays in the garage).

I added three wooden bows to support the cover during the season. They help the cover keep its shape to shed rain. However water still gets into the boat from rain, so keep the bilge plug out of the boat until you intend to float it.

Happy Boating.

I put one on one of my Whalers. Thunderstorm ripped it to shreds in a week. Never even got a chance to trail it.

You get what you pay for. Towed cover from iboats about 6,000 miles before I sold that boat.

Re: walmart boat cover?

Obviously some have good luck with those covers, I have not. The one that I bought sun rotted in one season. Though they don't look as good I would buy a $15 silver tarp before I bought another $40 boat cover. The last cover I got was from cabelas and I got it for $90. I have had it for 3 years and have treated it once with 303. I figure it's got a few more years in it. Depending on where you live you may have better results with a $40 cover, but in southern AZ they only last a few months.

Re: walmart boat cover?

I had one (for a 22 ft boat), it was made by atwood. It was a cheep cover, it looked like a cheep cover, but it did work and work well. It was thin, but actually one of the best (as far as watertightness) covers I've owned. Had I supported it with bows or poles and secured it better it would have lasted longer (a BIG rain load got it and ripped it after a year of use). The thing was water tight though.

I have has the same experience as Seaboo. I plan to buy another cover as the one I have is just about shot from the sun. It did last 5 years, which is retty good for $100.

The Walmart covers may go on sale in the very near future. I have one picked out...

Re: walmart boat cover?

I got like 4 seasons out of one and was pleased with it. I wasn't necessarily just being cheap when I bought it. My boat was frequently parked in a wooded area and the trees would make a real mess out of any cover. I thought it would be a waste to trash a more expensive cover.

I've got one, it's held up fine, but my boat is garage, the cover just keeps the dead bugs and dust out of the boat.. When we camp I toss the cover on it at night at the campsite.

Re: walmart boat cover?

I first bought the cheaper Walmart cover off of the shelf for $65 (due to the size...19' ), it lasted all summer but failed after a large snow storm. I then ordered the next better cover from Walmart for $150 or so,that included q/d draw straps (no need for bungy cords) and the cover part of the straps stitched to the top. This top survived a couple of good freezing rain/sleet/snow storms this winter, one of the storms accumulating over 12" of the wintery mix, without tearing and still looks good. I was cautious enough to remove the snow-ice-water as soon as I could. It has also performed well thru wind gusts of 50 mph , without any padding between it and the windshield. I think it is an Attwood product. For my boat , pictured below , I bought the second cover to fit a 23' boat...this allows me to pull the cover over the outboard enough so that the interior of my boat has remained completely dry since using this cover. If I can get a year or two more out of it , I will be happy for the $$$ I paid for it.

Re: walmart boat cover?

My walmart cover has been subject to repeated rainstorms over the last 6 months without tearing (I don't have any support poles either, so it can catch some serious water), so its standing up pretty well for something I haven't really taken care of. I wouldn't trailer it though.
