Walmart Marine Batteries

Bought a heavy duty marine starting battery from Wal Mart about 5 years ago. It had a generous warranty. 12 months later it crapped out and they exchanged it no questions asked. Same thing 15 months after that - so now I'm on number 3. This morning went to start her up and guess what - - - ? Went to Sears for the replacement.

You couldn't give me one of their batteries. Their chargers aren't much better in my opinion.

i have had my energizer wally world battery for 2 years with nary a problem.zero,zip,zilch! the 1 battery runs everything.

I look after a fleet of 4 x 6 24 volt battery pallet trucks and floor scrubers


I have seen plenty of Trojans which are suppose to be the best FAIL with daily matiance

I have 2 wal mart batteries in my boat. One is 4 years old the other 6. The 6 year old is starting to gove me troubles, but I'm not complaining. Gotten alot of use outta them.

Maintenace goes a long way tho. I take them out when boat goes into storage & i keep them in a warm place & charge them once a month.

While perhaps not a direct comparison, on the Automotive battery front the WalMart Everstart Batteries way out performed Sears DieHards.

River marine supply 6&2 across from publix downtown miami.They have optima blue top starting($159&38Lbs )dc($179&43lbs)20+$ cheaper than anywhere I have found.These are the best boat battries I've seen,from dead to full charge in 2hrs with 2amps and lasts 3x longer and takes unbielievable abuse!I find the best trait is how fast it recharges with such low amps.Marine engines put out such low amps for all the electronics boats have.Stronger battery =more fun time&safty,easily worth $ difference!!!!!!!!

Many people are quick to judge the quality of the battery, but turn a blind eye towards the charging system and usage of the battery. If you are continually over or undercharging the battery, or letting it sit in a partially discharged state for any period of time the best battery in the world will fail. I would do some tests on the charging system to ensure that this isn't what's causing the failure(s).

Yep, Walmart makes there own batteries..Jeez...give me a break...probably Exide with a diff label..use there MC batts all the time..like blaming the carb when your out of gas..

Not sure how you can charge a 50 Amp hour battery from
'dead to full charge' by putting in 4 Amp hours worth of charge... BUT, I agree. I love my Optima Blues!

I've been using WalMart yellow Everstart Marine Maxx batteries for years and have not had any major problems to speak of. I've been really satisfied with them.

One good thing about them is if they do go out there is always a WalMart close by to take them to if still under warranty.

Interstate batteries. Only way to go IMHO. been using them in our cars for years, so getting them for boats was a no brainer.

There are only a few battery makers out there.
And if your a big enough buyer, i.e. Wal-Mart, Sears, etc. you can get your own label and you can also dictate what exactly goes into your branded battery.

eggzactly, if you buy the whole production run, every parameter is yours for the choosing, including things like quality control, acceptable failure rates, etc. I like everstarts for trolling, interstate for cranking, from a reliability standpoint. traded in the first two sets of walymart batts after less than a year, current set still working like new after 2 years......go figure.......

As a side note, I designed the furnaces that melt the lead for Optima Batteries and also Johnson Controls that makes several private branded batteries.

Nope,
Worked 19 years for Lindberg/MPH in Michigan.
Non-ferrous metal melting and holding furnaces and distribution to casting machines.
