well those of you following my posts i appreciate it, what can i do to gain more top end speed. my old motor was a 305 merc and its cruising speed was about 35knotts. my new motor is a merc 350 with forged crank and pistons... with the difference in cubic inches alone should i get some type of speed increase? i would like my boat to hit atleast 50mph wot or better. what can i do to try and hit this goal? i have a alpha 1 drive with a 1.32 ratio instead of a 1.50. mechanic says he will give install a prop that will make up for the difference and i should even gain speed on this setup "but will take longer to plane out due to loss in low end torque or something like that" he said something about installing a 13 degree pitch prop. will this work or anyone have any other suggestions? my is boat is an 84 cruisers inc 22 foot. empty weight is 3,800# really would like to hit that 50mph mark.
