Want to make sure I understand pitch correctly

Hello all, I have a 2014 21 foot stripper with an Evinrude 150 outboard. The blade pitch I currently have is 15, the boats seems to take forever to get on plane. If I understand correctly the lower pitch number the quicker the boat will get out of the water at the sacrifice of losing top speed. Is this correct? I’m ok with losing some top speed, I’m just tired of plowing my way around the bay. I was thinking a 13 pitch prop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

For the most part yes.
What you want is a prop which will reach your max WOT RPM with the boat normally loaded. So if you cannot now reach WOT RPM you should lower the pitch. Can still lower pitch anyway, just watch you don't over rev

Assuming you have a 3 blade prop now

Do you have an installed tach on your console to start if in pursuit of fast out of the hole shot ? If so, post max wot rpm achieved as loaded to know how much over propped the motor is revving at ?

Happy Boating.

In your quest, consider props with ports...a hole located below and just behind the start of the root of each blade. A good many SS and Hustler aluminum (both sold here....access at top of the page...parts...props) have ports which are installed in the prop for your particular problem. When you have a heavy boat, pulling a good load like a skier and want a good hole shot plus want great top end, ports do that for you....like having 2 props in one. Lots of info around on ported props.

A 150 (HP) on that boat is a bit under powered but still.....you should have a half decent hole shoot with a 15” prop

New to you boat by chance?

Have tabs on the boat?

In an unpowered situation, tabs are more bang for the buck than a prop as long as the existing prop is “adequate”.

Yes, its a new boat to me and there are no tabs. I had been curious about the tabs and asked another boater how he liked them, he said he didn't think his are set up right and had no idea if they worked. obviously that didn't help me.

Go to the Shop section, props, select your engine and pertinent from the query. A list of available props will appear. Some listings show the ports if ported and mention ports in the description. Also in the props section they discuss attributes of props and what does what. You can hone your skills by reading the available info.

I assume you mean 21 foot Seaswirl Striper. I run a 21 foot Striper Dual Console with a 150HP Johnson and a 19" 4 blade prop. Planning is not a problem. Top speed is about 40MPH.

I would look to your motor for an issue. A compression test and spark test are in order.
