Hi all, I finally got my motor back together...new water pump, thermostat, water deflectors in the block, (that was fun...snapped three bolts in the block, got it straightened out though).
Anyhow I want to start it to see if everything is ok and I left my key at my camp an hour away. By searching the forum it seems like I can just jump from the + side of the battery to the starter solenoid and she should start. Is this correct? More importantly is how do I shut it off? Ground something? Thanks,
btw, it is an 85hp 1975 johnny
Rich

Youll need to unhook the kill switch or the harness, but youll need the negative for the starter when you jump it.You could choke to stop
or jump the kill circuit.

hey, having an older motor for a couple years Ilearned---take a peice of 12 or10 gauge wire 1-2 feet long, put a ring terminal on one end that will fit the starter solinoid hot side. disconect the harness at plug ,now touch the starter. vroom!!! just close the choke to stop it.keep this wire on board, you will be doing this over and over.starter switches tend to go out often.I was flying along one day and suddenly the boat died.it was the ignition switch!
