Help... Outboards are new to me, and I've just discovered that the std. "alternator" on the johnson 235 only puts out 10 amps... NOT enough to run the new accessories I just added to the boat.

My local dealer (who is WAY knowledgeable about these onld motors) says there were 30 amp charging systems available on these motors, identified as 235 "GT" models... Anyone know of a good source for these parts ... used?

My dealer priced out new ones for me, but they are WAY more $$$ than the cost of simply adding a honda generator to the boat...

Appreciate any help anyone may be in locating some used hardware for the conversion...

Thanx...

The 35 amp system came on several V6 crossflow motors. Call Jack at Superior Maarine at 800-338-9281. It may be worthwhile at that point to get the complete electronics.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info... One quick question... When you referred to the "complete electronics", what all did you include other than the stator & rectifier, in your scope of parts?

Thanx,

You will need the flywheel, stator and reg / rec. At that point you may consider getting the pack, timer base and coils. Thats what I did when I switched my 150 from 10 amp to 35. Now I have a complete spare set and it wasnt a lot more than the 35 amp parts. Just thought it might be worth asking when you call.

Good luck!

Thanx again... If this outborad business don't drive me completely nuts, I may even learn something about them before it's all over... Had I/O's for more years than I care to admit to being alive... They were so much like a car, they were EASY, and comfortable for me ot deal with.

I had NO earthly idea, that outbords large enough to power a 24 footer (and be electric start to boot), would not come std. with a charging system large enough to handle a few accessories... Live & learn...

Thanx Again... Have placed a call to Jack, and am awaiting a return call/reply to my message...
