There isn't a weedless motor that I know of There are some props that are referred to as semi weedless.
There was a OMC 3 hp. with what they called a weedless gear case but again semi weedless at best.
I believe it could be tilted at an angle for shallow water perhaps helping to avoid some weeds.
There are motors that are designed to run in very shallow water even mud I think they are resistant to weeds
They go by names something like like mud puppy, gator tail. I don't know if you could call them weedless.

Years ago OMC built a 3 hp alternate firing twin with two different lower units. I think one weedless version painted in camo. was called the Ducktwin.

The weedless LU version was just that. The prop was weedless and the drive angle was at about 45 degrees rather than the standard 90 so that the engine could be operated in shallow water and high weed content water.

I have fished in a boat of a friend powered by one of those engines and I guarantee you they are weedless.

A friend of mine purchased one of those mud motor. Works great in weeds and mud even. He had a choise between a 8 hp Tecumseh and a 6hp Honda. He has been sorry for NOT choosing the Honda. Reason is motor noise. The Honda is smooth and quiet as the Tecumseh is rough and loud.

Sharing.

I owned one of these in the 4 hp format. Best fishing motor ever, but it would have been nice if it had been available in the 8 hp format.

Absolutely! Said it many times. One would think that OMC developing that near perfect outboard would have realized that some people want the same performance in an engine that will plane their boat so that running time back and fort would be reduced.

On the mud motor I found those were used in the orient years ago. Guess the idea caught on here. I don't know what you guys ran on your "pereaux" fishing boats down in the bayou country which I remember seeing as far back as the '50's. I think they had a briggs and stratton type air cooled engine mounted midship and a thruhul lshaft in shallow drive configuration.

On the second picture herein, it's easy to see the comment on engine noise. Funny, that was one of the OMC advertising points. Quiet operation. Course this will plane you boat in shallower water than the OMC would run; but it was compact.

Now, something I didn't expect. I knew the Acadians came down here, decided to leave oppression or whatever was going on up there in Nova Scotia, but didn't know till today that the little bayou boat was named after a town in NS. How bout dat!

The problem with getting the larger motors to use the angled drive like the old OMC 3s and 4s is that at planing speeds you'd be getting a lot of stern lift.

No doubt. Wonder if they ever tried it?

On the off-chance you're looking for a "traditional", transom-mount outboard... that performs like any other similar outboard - but also enjoys the *OUTSTANDING* characteristic of sporting a lower unit that was DESIGNED with cutting edge weedless technology... at the time: Late 50's / early 60's.

The manufacturer was McCulloch. <-- They made outboards with several elements of leading technology. How about 2 water pump impellers? One to pump water through the powerhead like any other outboard. And the other to serve as a bilge pump.

Permit me to direct your attention to two McCulloch outboards designed with "weedless" lower units.

(A-1) 9HP electric start: This collection of images illustrates several more ahead-of-its-time advanced features. Alas, it is *NOT* showing the "weedless" lower unit I want you to see.

(A-2) 9HP electric start with radically swept back lower unit is an image that's hiing from me.
(A-3) Here's a short YouTube vid of my 9HP electric running in my test tank, but it's not quite there yet: Poor idle and excessive fuel consumption = ruptured fuel pump diaphragm.

(B) One look at the Fishing Scott will give you a good idea of how smoothly swept back the Scott McCulloch / Mculloch 7HP outboard is.

Actually, a truly 100% weedless motor would look more like this...

Hard to argue with ^^ THAT ^^!

Getting from point A to point B MIGHT be a bit time-consuming, though.

Back to the subject here, I got 2 3hp 2c weedless left in my stash OB's. I just sold one recent, JRude, and it was even painted "camo" too! I have a Johnny weedless that I did a straight shaft L/U, for running big boat "dingys:" Best damn small motors made my book. That one I will keep. I also have a Belgium made Rude, weedless, same thing. Great shape and simple purrs. Its in the stash pickled. I can sell ya that if wanted for $250, and you pay shipping from the west coast. I will do my best a FedEx ship to ya. PM me more info, email addy, pix. Time I start thinning out my stash, share the great old motors others. Up to you...Robby

A little Canadian history: Originaly Acadians were french, then after England took over Canada by winning an easy battle in Quebec city (while the French king was fooling around with folie-bergeres) they deported the majority of Acadians to Louisiana that was then a state owned by France (thus originaly french speaking Cajuns) The word Acadian became Cajun from english pronunciation. Original reason for deportation which is well hidden from history books is that Acadians were tough people and Brits were afraid of rebellion in Acadia (Nova Scotia).

I owned one of those 9 hp Mc Culloch with the bilge pump. Allowed me to fish under heavy rain while motor idled and pump water out of the boat. Was a great feature and I could never figure out why other Mfg's did not use the idea after Mc'Culloch close off.

Would not go true mud and heavy weeds as a mud motor would ... LOL
